ORLANDO, Fla. – News 6 is celebrating the market’s first Traffic Safety Expert, “Trooper Steve” Montiero, as he departs after nearly nine years.
On July 31, “Trooper Steve” Montiero’s tour of duty with News 6 comes to an end. For nearly a decade, countless viewers tuned in to hear from Steve—the market’s only Traffic Safety Expert who also served as an active State Trooper.
A Central Florida native and Air Force Security Forces veteran, Montiero built a respected career across the Sunshine State, from patrol to public affairs, becoming a familiar face of the Florida Highway Patrol in Orlando.
But Steve was never defined by his résumé; he was defined by the mission. On air and in the community, he transformed traditional live traffic coverage, helping Central Floridians make safer choices behind the wheel through reports like Ask Trooper Steve and Trooper Steve on Patrol.
“Thank you for nearly a decade of support, and the opportunity to serve this community. While this chapter is coming to an end, the mission that has driven me from day one… educating, serving, and hopefully making a difference in someone’s life will never change. I leave with nothing but gratitude, incredible memories, and excitement for what lies ahead for me. Thank you for believing in me and allowing me to be part of your mornings.”
Montiero’s service to the community will continue beyond his television career. In mid-August, he will be taking on a new role as Director of Public Information for the City of Apopka. His new mission will be to promote the city and its brand and to serve as a proactive, transparent source of information for the city’s police and fire departments.
