PLAYALINDA BEACH, Fla. – For many, Florida’s beaches are a place to relax and take in the sunshine.

But for some, it’s an opportunity to take relaxation to a whole new level, as the Sunshine State features a handful of nude beaches.

According to Visit Florida, a couple of these beaches can actually be found right here in Central Florida at the Canaveral National Seashore.

“That could be because this pristine federal park is not only relatively remote, but also breathtakingly beautiful,” the report reads. “This is Florida the way it was when the first explorers sighted them in Columbus’ day: dunes covered with a mantle of sea oats and seagrape; beach sunflowers and berries.”

The park plays host to two beaches: Apollo Beach at the north end in Volusia County, and Playalinda Beach at the southern end of the park.

While Apollo Beach has designated areas where clothing is optional, though, Playalinda Beach is a bit more restricted.

At the federal level, both beaches allow nudity. However, Brevard County banned public nudity in 1995 amid clashes between groups of “naturists” and members of the public who didn’t want to be exposed to naked people at the beach.

Since Playalinda Beach straddles the line between Brevard and Volusia counties, any prospective nudist sunbathers will have to make sure they stay on the right side of the beach.

Beyond that, Visit Florida also lists two other nude beaches in the state that are a bit farther from the region.

The first is Haulover Beach, which is the best-known and oldest officially recognized nude beach in the state.

Haulover Beach can be found between Miami and Fort Lauderdale, and the site has even been ranked by CNN as one of the best nude beaches in the world.

Further north is the other nude beach: Blind Creek Beach at Hutchinson Island, situated between Fort Pierce and Jensen Beach.

“Although casual nude use has a long history at this remote, primitive and pristine beach, it now has legal status,” Visit Florida writes.
