The chair of the Brevard County School Board is pushing for a major overhaul that some are calling “the most prolific school discipline policy” the district has ever had. However, the school board chairman has not yet revealed any specifics about what’s included in the policy. The chairman said he will call an emergency meeting next week to draft the policy with help from the sheriff, state attorney, and teacher and school support staff unions. Brevard County sheriff asks for help naming next generation of crimefighting K-9s
BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — Eight future crimefighting canines need names and the Brevard County sheriff is asking for the community’s help to choose them. Sheriff Wayne Ivey said the bloodhound puppies are getting ready to start their training for their futures as K-9 officers. He said two additional female dogs from the litter are taking on a brand-new role as part of a new educational partnership with the Brevard Zoo’s Barnyard. Volusia deputies arrest two teens involved in recent DeLand shooting

FHP: Two injured after dump truck overturns in Brevard County

Port Canaveral man dies after being rescued from yacht during Hurricane Nicole
COCOA, Fla. — A 68-year-old Port Canaveral man died early Thursday morning after he was rescued from a yacht while Hurricane Nicole was bearing down on Brevard County. When police and firefighters arrived, they said they found the couple on the boat as it was being battered by the waves and the dock. Firefighters said they managed to get on the boat and started CPR on the man, who was later identified as Thomas Whittle. During the rescue attempt, officers said the yacht broke loose from the dock and began to drift. Whittle later died.wftv.com

‘There’s no beach at all’: Brevard County dealing with ‘significant’ erosion following Nicole
BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — Brevard County is dealing with what officials are calling “significant” erosion on its coastline following Hurricane Nicole. Images from up and down the county’s coastline show shrinking beaches and damage to the sand dunes. Brevard County officials said the damage to the coast is comparable to the 2004 hurricane season. Across the county we saw a damaged park sign, power lines down, and debris and yard waste lining the roads. One person electrocuted, another shocked in Orange County
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Orange County Fire Rescue said one person was electrocuted and another was shocked Thursday. Officials said the two victims were shocked in the Conway area, near Bayfront Parkway and Pershing Avenue.
