Chicago-based ice cream chain Rainbow Cone coming to Orlando in 2024

ORLANDO, Fla. – A Chicago-based ice cream chain known for stacking multiple flavors onto a single cone is looking to get a toehold in Central Florida.

Rainbow Cone announced plans in a news release to open shops in Orlando in 2024.

So far, no exact addresses or opening dates have been announced.

The chain already has one Florida location open in Bradenton, which opened in September.

Rainbow Cone said it also has plans to open locations in Tampa Bay, West Palm Beach and Key West.

The company said it is also planning an ice cream truck tour stretching from Chicago into Florida, but no dates for the event were given.

According to the company, the chain was first opened in Chicago in 1926 by “Grandpa Joe” Sapp. The business is still run by the Sapp family.

Rainbow Cone began a new franchising operation in 2022, according to the news release.

According to the company website, franchises require an initial investment of between $211,250 to $2,929,650, depending on the franchise model, which includes kiosks, in-line and free-standing stores.

Franchisees must also pay a franchise fee of between $20,000 and $35,000, a royalty fee equal to 7% of gross sales and a 2% to 3% marketing fee.
