Getting Results Award winner serves up smiles

Timber Creek High School's Food Services Manager connects with kids

ORLANDO, Fla. – Raymond Gillo, Food and Nutrition Services manager, at Timber Creek High School, is this week's Getting Results Award winner.

Gillo has worked as the Food and Nutrition Services Manager at Timber Creek for 15 years. In that time his outgoing personality has made him a notable figure on campus.

He was nominated by Frank Gallo who says in his nomination application that, "Raymond's contribution goes far beyond nutrition," Gallo continues, "He's the 'cool guy,' kids recognize his honesty and integrity and actually listen to him as he stresses good manners, acceptance of different cultural and ethnic backgrounds and the ability to make positive change through hard work and integrity."

"I'm the cool guy I guess," Gillo says as he works the line in the cafeteria. He can tell you most of the kids names who pass by. He also knows what they're likely to buy.

"I've always been like that," he says. "I'm open with them, you know. I talk about their new shirt they got today .. on their level."

Gillo's popularity goes beyond campus. Gallo says he's witnessed plenty of times in shopping malls and grocery stores, kids will make a point to stop what they're doing to say hi.

"They're always high-fiving him and it's nice to see," he says.

Gillo plans to retire in February. He says he's most proud of providing nutritious meals for his students throughout his career.
