Swan expected to be OK, experts say

ORLANDO, Fla. – A man is still in custody Friday after police say he strangled an Australian black swan at Lake Eola earlier this week.

Orlando police said they spotted John Wynne, 47, carrying the swan, named Ruffles, by its neck on Monday. Wynne then said to a group of people "Hey guys, look at this," before noticing the police were watching him, according to the police report.

He was arrested and charged with animal cruelty and grand theft of a commercially farmed animal. The swan was valued at between $500 and $800.

According to the report, an animal expert said Ruffles is recovering and expected to be fine.
