ORLANDO, Fla. – Central Florida is facing another dangerously hot day, but there are at least some changes ahead.
MONDAY
Afternoon temperatures will climb into the mid to upper 90s, sending heat index values well into the triple digits.
A Heat Advisory remains in effect for all of Florida from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. as feels-like temperatures soar over 110 degrees.
There will also be a chance for showers and storms, but the best coverage today will be from Kissimmee to Cape Canaveral and points north, where rain chances range from 20 to 50 percent.
Any storms that develop could produce frequent lightning, wind gusts up to 55 mph and heavy downpours. Westerly winds aloft will push storms eastward and eventually offshore through the evening.
Rain outlook
As moisture gradually spreads across Central Florida, rain and storm chances will increase closer to normal levels through the week. Expect roughly a 40 to 60 percent chance of afternoon and evening storms each day.
The persistent west to offshore flow will continue to push storms toward the east coast and offshore. The main concerns with stronger storms will remain lightning, gusty winds and heavy rainfall.
Temperature outlook
The dangerous heat will continue through at least Wednesday, and additional Heat Advisories remain possible.
By the latter half of the week, increasing moisture, clouds, and rain chances may help temperatures trend slightly closer to normal.
