WINTER PARK, Fla. – Winter Park police arrested a woman they said beat a 10-year-old for not doing homework.
Police said Gisela Pascual got upset when she found out the child did not complete a reading assignment for school.
Pascual used a belt and her hand to beat the child's legs, rear and back, police said.
After the incident, police said the child went to school and employees noticed the bruises, stripe marks on the child's back and loop marks from the belt. School officials notified the Department of Children and Families.
Police said DCF placed the child in the custody of a family member.
When confronted by the allegations, police said Pascual asked for an attorney.
Local 6 found that Pascual was arrested on child abuse charges in 2009, but the State Attorney's Office decided not to file charges.
