MERRITT ISLAND, Fla. – Saturday marks the last day Central Floridians can take advantage of free activities in honor of Archeology Month.
The Sams House at Pine Island has been offering many free activities throughout the entire month of March in recognition of Archeology Month.

On Friday, Florida Public Archeology Network Outreach Coordinator Gregg Harding will lead two hands-on archeology activities perfect for elementary and middle school children.
In the "Chocolate Chip Cookie Excavation," participants will learn the basics of archeology by using cookies.
In "Atlatl Antics," participants will practice a primitive form of hunting. Two hikes along the half-mile nature trail showcase the unique history and ecology of Pine Island.
John Sams built the oldest standing home in Brevard County, the 1875 Sams cabin. Sams was a citrus grower, and the first Superintendent of Brevard Public Schools.
Tours of the cabin and the adjacent 1888 home are offered every Thursday at 3 p.m.
The Sams House at Pine Island is located at 6195 North Tropical Trail in Merritt Island, a half-mile west of State Road 3. It is open Thursdays to Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call 321-449-4720.
