Cocoa Beach nudist motel's health standards probed

Lawyers to present report on health, nudity standards at meeting

COCOA BEACH, Fla. – Cocoa Beach City Commissioners will hold a meeting Thursday night to discuss health concerns about a nudist motel.

The Fawlty Towers motel on East Cocoa Beach Causeway was turned into a nudist motel on May 1. City commissioners said they have concerns about the motel's health standards, so lawyers will present a report on health, alcohol and nudity standards research.

Owner of Fawlty Towers Motel, Paul Hodge, says he's looking forward to it but said he hasn't gotten any complaints so far.

"I don't think they are going to shut me down," Hodge said. "I mean attorneys are confident that's not going to happen."
Hodge said he's gotten clients from all over Florida since the motel's change and that he's seen a huge increase in business.

"We are running full up at weekends now," Hodge said.

Businesses near the motel have also seen an increase in business.

"I've seen nothing in the negative so far," Hodge said. "I would presume that nude people eat yogurt too."

But not everyone is convinced the motel is better for the local economy. Earlier this month, several people stood up during a city commission meeting and complained about the motel, saying that the motel is ruining the city and "staining the good name of Cocoa Beach."
