SeaWorld Orlando takes in injured brown pelican

Pelican rescued in Virginia, will make SeaWorld exhibit its home

ORLANDO, Fla. – SeaWorld Orlando has received a brown pelican on Tuesday that was rescued by the US Navy Oil Recovery Team and Virginia Beach SPCA Wildelife program in Norfolk ,Virginia.

Officials said the aviculture team received the pelican, which was rescued from Sewells Point Jetty on June 22, after it flew into Orlando International Airport on Delta Airlines.

The approximately 7 pound, brown pelican has a severely injured wing and is unable to be returned to the wild. SeaWorld Orlando will provide the bird with a long-term home inside the park's Pelican Preserve.

Upon arrival at SeaWorld Orlando, the pelican was placed in a quarantine area and will be closely monitored before joining other rescued brown pelicans in the park, officials said.
