Man held box-cutter to victim's neck at ATM

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – Deputies are still searching for the man they say held a box-cutter at a woman's neck at a Bank of America ATM on Merritt Island.

The robbery happened at 15 East Merritt Causeway about 8:30 p.m. Monday, said Brevard County Sheriff's Office deputies.

The woman was walking up to the ATM when a man pointed a box cutter at her throat and demanded money.

The man ran off after taking some cash. Surveillance video captured the man at the ATM but his face was hidden. Deputies said the man is described as around 6 feet tall.

The woman was uninjured. Deputies said the victim did the right thing in her situation.

"She complied, which we would say to do at that point, go ahead and comply, because that's your best chance to not have something happen to you," said Lt. Tod Goodyear of the Brevard County Sheriff's Office.

Goodyear says people should drive around a coupl eof times before pulling into an ATM, lock your door and put your windows up until you're ready to make your transaction.
