Man arrested in stolen driveway at Florida home

Anthony Jones claimed he was moving pavers for friend, police say

REDDICK, Fla. – A man was arrested Thursday night on allegations of stealing a Reddick woman's driveway.

Police said Anthony Jones, 49, stole $200 worth of brick pavers from a woman's home on Northwest 120th Street.

The woman reported to police that she left her home around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday and when she returned later that night, she felt a "bump" as she pulled onto her driveway.

A witness told deputies that two men were seen digging up the pavers around 9 a.m., but the activity didn't seem suspicious because construction workers were building a barn on the property.

When police arrived at Jones' home, he had 50 stone pavers of various sizes loaded into a blue Dodge pickup truck.

Jones told police that he was removing the pavers for a friend named "Nigel." He couldn't provide police with contact information for the friend, so he was taken to Marion County Jail on grand theft charges.

Each paver is worth $3 and with labor, it's expected to cost around $350 to replace, according to police.
