Robber poses as job-seeker, fires shots at Petco employees

No one injured in 2 Brevard County armed robberies

TITUSVILLE, Fla. – Police are investigating two armed robberies in Brevard County after a man hit two different Petco stores over the weekend, firing shots at employees in one of the crimes.

West Melbourne police on Monday released surveillance video from Saturday's armed robbery attempt at the Petco store on Palm Bay Road near Interstate 95.

Investigators say about 6:30 p.m. Saturday a man wearing a red and black shirt and carrying a silver handgun walked into the store concealing the weapon. He spoke to one of the employees about applying for a job but then pulled out the gun and demanded cash.

The gunman tripped, allowing employees and customers to run toward the front of the store. That's when the gunman fired two shots at employees, according to police. The surveillance video even shows one bullet striking the cash register where an employee was stationed moments earlier.

The man got away without any merchandise or cash, but about an hour later, police say someone fitting the same description robbed the Petco in Titusville. It's unclear what the robber got away with.

Now, police in both agencies think the robbery and the robbery attempt are connected. They also believe the gunman seen in the surveillance video could be a teen, working with a group to target the pet stores.

On Tuesday, investigators focused on finding better images of the robber to help them identify a suspect.

No one was hurt in either incident.
