COCOA, Fla. – A 20-year-old man was shot and killed early Tuesday in Cocoa, deputies said.

Lavonte Ingram, of Cocoa, was shot around 1:20 a.m. near Lakeview Boulevard, according to the Brevard County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said a large crowd had gathered in a parking area when a man approached the group and began firing a handgun in the direction of Ingram, who was struck. 

Ingram was taken to a hospital and was pronounced dead, deputies said.

The assailant was last seen running from the scene.  A detailed description was not released.
