Wheelchair bound man hit, killed

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Melbourne police are investigating why a driver ran off the road, hitting a man in a wheelchair early Saturday morning.

Police said 26-year-old Sylvia Sosa was south on Sherwood Boulevard, near King Richard Road, when she failed to maintain the lane.

Sosa ran off the road into the bike lane where 71-year-old Edward Webster was in a mobility chair.

Sosa struck the back of the mobility chair, according to Melbourne police.

Webster was taken to Weustoff Hospital and pronounced dead just before 7 a.m.
