7-hour standoff in Orange County ends in arrest

Suspect identified as Jabez Aguilar

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – The Orange County Sheriff's Office said numerous apartments were evacuated Sunday morning due to a standoff at the Colonial Pointe apartment complex.

The Sheriff's Office said they received multiple calls a little after 3 a.m. about shots being fired at the complex.

As deputies were on their way to the scene, they got another call claiming someone had been stabbed at the complex and that the suspect was armed with a firearm.

When deputies arrived, they reportedly found the victim, who had a cut on his hand, with his girlfriend.

The Sheriff's Office said the victim told deputies his roommate cut him with a knife, pointed a handgun at him and did not allow him and his girlfriend to leave the apartment.

During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly shot multiple rounds in the air outside the apartment. The Sheriff's Office said the victim and his girlfriend were able to escape and call 911.

Deputies set up a perimeter and made announcements to get the suspect and others in the apartment to come out peacefully.

A little after 10 a.m., as SWAT was mobilizing to enter the apartment, three subjects, including the suspect, Jabez Aguilar, walked out and were immediately detained.

Charges filed against Aguilar include possession of firearm by convicted felon, aggravated battery with a weapon and false imprisonment with a weapon and mask.

He will appear in court on Monday.
