Jury: 'Playboy Conman' guilty of grand larceny

Scott Campbell behind bars, awaits February sentencing

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – An Osceola County jury found Scott Campbell, the so-called "Playboy Conman," guilty Monday of bilking his former online girlfriends out of savings and retirement funds to finance a small-time recording studio he called BDO records.

The 49-year-old Kissimmee man is charged with grand larceny linked to a series of online relationships state investigators estimate netted Campbell $2 million over the last decade.

The trial before Osceola County Judge Jon Morgan began last Monday and concluded with closing arguments this morning.

The jury of four women and two men took less than two hours to return the guilty verdict.

Campbell was immediately remanded to the Osceola County Jail.

Lucille Walker of Tampa lost $30,000 to Campbell's investment scheme.

Walker says she doesn't expect to get any of her money back but that she is "glad that it is finally over."

"I'm relieved he's not going to do this to anyone else," she said. "He's not hurting anyone else."

Palm Coast attorney Marc Dwyer represented Campbell in the case and always insisted his client was innocent.

In an email to Local 6 Monday, Dwyer said, "Obviously we're disappointed in the verdict. Mr. Campbell intends to appeal. And will continue to fight hard to clear his name."

But Assistant State Attorney Robert Finkbeiner presented a compelling evidence that included a paper trail of receipts that showed Campbell spent thousands in investor funds in Las Vegas, Atlantic City and the Hard Rock Café in Tampa.

In a voice message to Kim Serraville, a former girlfriend who invested $80,000 with his company he said: " If you think I'm gonna run now you must be crazy, this is my company and my idea my dream."

He was arrested in June.

Sentencing has been set for Friday, Feb. 13.
