The attack happened around 9 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of Clark Street and Overland Road, just south of U.S. Highway 441.

Orange County sheriff's deputies said the intruders demanded cash and electronics before things became violent.

After pistol-whipping the man, who's in his 30s, two of the assailants raped the woman, who's in her early 20s, in another room, deputies said.

The victims were taken to a hospital and treated for their injuries, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said a preliminary investigation shows that there's no indication the victims knew the assailants, and the attack did not appear to be drug-related.  A motive for the attack is not yet known.

"It's a scary thought to think that it could happen to anybody," said Michael Lara, who lives nearby.  "What are you going to gain from it?  How much are you going to profit out of it by beating somebody down, almost killing them?"

Several items were stolen from the home, deputies said.

"I've been here for about four years and to tell you the truth, I'm ready to not be here any more," Lara said.

A detailed description of the assailants, who were believed to have fled in a vehicle, has not been released.
