Florida family finds pirate treasure in attic

Treasure may be linked to legendary pirate

TAMPA, Fla. – It's not uncommon to find forgotten items while cleaning out an attic, but what one Bay area man found sounds like something out of a movie.

Mike Lopez says his younger sister found a skeletal hand, tattered map of the Hillsborough River, century-old coins and a picture in an old box in their grandfather's attic.

Lopez says when he was a child his grandfather would tell them stories about his father, Ernesto Lopez, finding legendary pirate Jose Gaspar's treasure.

The coins are believed to be Spanish and Portuguese from the 18th century.

The family thinks the hand may have belonged to Gaspar himself.
