Body of missing 82-year-old man found in Orange County, police say

Salvatore Gambino had last been seen on Friday

CLERMONT, Fla. – A body found on private property Monday night in Orange County is that of a missing 82-year-old man who was reported missing last week, Clermont police said.

The body of Salvatore Gambino was found by the landowner's son at 17920 West Colonial Drive near the Orange-Lake county border.

"When I turned around I noticed exactly what it was. I didn't go back, I just went to the garage to get my phone and call the police," Travis English said.  "It really saddens me, especially that it happened here and what happened to him.  We don't exactly know yet, but he was all covered in dirt, and I can only imagine."

Foul play is not suspected in Gambino's death, according to police, who said his wheelchair and cane were found at the scene.

An autopsy will determine the cause and manner of death.

Clermont police said Gambino's family was notified of the death.

The family said it's thankful for the outpouring of support from the community and the efforts of all the volunteers who assisted in the search for Gambino.
