New exit debuts on State Road 429

Ribbon-cutting opens interchange on Schofield Road

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Drivers on State Road 429 now get to use a brand new exit in southwest Orange County.

The new exit is roughly 14 miles away from Walt Disney World Resort and may eventually help thousands of people get home.

Bo Bodell , who works at Orange County National Golf Center, said the new interchange will save him time getting to and from work.

"It's a lot quicker for me to get off at that interchange," said Bodell.

A ribbon-cutting was held Wednesday for the new interchange at Schofield Road, where a developer is planning to build 60,000 new homes.

"This area will be growing out and it's moving in that direction now and has been for quite sometime," said Orange County District 1 Commissioner Scott Boyd.

While there are few homes and businesses in that area today, construction is currently underway for several nearby developments.

Bodell predicts that this interchange will be critical for the growth of surrounding areas.

"I think it will be great for business and I think it's going to be great for the different housing developments going in in the area," said Bodell.

Work on the $10 million project has been underway since August.
