Photo posted to Snapchat prompts Volusia school threat investigation

Pic on bathroom wall warns of school shooting, officials say

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. – Volusia County school officials added extra police patrols at a school on Thursday after a photo posted to Snapchat warned there would be a shooting.

According to Volusia County Schools, the Snapchat photo, which showed graffiti on a bathroom wall at New Smyrna Beach High School, was sent to the school administration Tuesday.

Parents received a message from NSBHS on Wednesday telling them about the police investigation, according to officials.

School officials said they haven't found anything that makes the graffiti a credible threat, but they are taking it seriously.

Volusia County Sheriff's Office and New Smyrna Beach police were at the school Thursday, officials said. Out of 1,400 students at the school, 821 attended school on Thursday.
