The new NWSL team will be named the Orlando Pride. Rawlins also unveiled the team's logo, which features the Lake Eola fountain in it.
"The name 'Orlando Pride' captures how we all feel about the City of Orlando, as well as firmly tying into the Lions family," said founder and president Phil Rawlins in a release. "The time is right for women's professional soccer here in Central Florida, and we are excited to launch this new team for 2016. We want to win championships and build one of the best women's teams in world soccer."
The Orlando Pride is the 10th Team in the league and the second expansion team. Other teams in the league are in Boston, Chicago, Houston, Kansas City, Portland and Seattle.
Tom Sermanni, who coached the US women's team 2013-2014 and most recently coached the Australia national women's team, was named the Orlando Pride coach.
Tuesday's announcement follows last week's announcement that Orlando City would add a new feeder team in Brevard County called Orlando City-B.
