MELBOURNE, Fla. – Melbourne police say they are developing strong leads in identifying a pair who shot a car dealership employee during an apparent burglary on Oct. 16.
A 63-year-old Gator Chrysler Jeep Dodge employee was shot in the back and wounded after coming across the burglars while checking a back parking lot just before closing time at the dealership located at 840 South Harbor City Blvd.
Police said the employee walked around the back of the dealership and saw a car running with two people inside. He confronted them and the driver hit the gas, pinning the victim against another vehicle.
Police said a woman approached the employee from behind and shot him in the shoulder area before fleeing the car lot with a man who was waiting inside a nearby vehicle. It was not immediately known if surveillance cameras captured the shooting.
Both the woman and her accomplice were carrying handguns.
The victim, who is recovering, has not been identified. The owner of the dealership said the employee will be back at work soon.
The woman was described as thin, possibly in her 20s and standing about 5 feet 8 inches tall. She has dark auburn shoulder-length hair.
Police have described the man waiting for her in the car as a thin, light-skinned, 30 to 40 years of age and standing about 6 feet 1 inch tall. He also has dark, wavy shoulder-length hair, a mustache and a strong southern accent.
