ORLANDO, Fla. – As Salvation Army of Orlando Maj. Pamala Morris led the News 6 crew around the Angel Tree program distribution center, she explained organization is a priority for a charity that collects thousands of donations, run by hundreds of volunteers.
"It's a large operation," she said. "It's very complex, but our goal through it all is really to enjoy Christmas."
Her work with the Salvation Army has spanned 30 years, and her passion for the community is a part of what makes the program thrive.
"Whatever we can do as human beings -- you, me, volunteers, Salvation Army officers -- to help a hurting world, and to heal it, even in a small way, is what I'm passionate about," Morris said.
The Angel Trees are not sent out to locations until November, but Morris' work with volunteers begins long before the holiday season.
"Christmas for us starts in July and goes through January, and then starts again," she said.
Volunteers can sign up year-round to help with the Angel Tree program through the Salvation Army of Orlando.
