Christmas Minion decoration stolen from Orange City home

Family says 2-year-old's favorite Christmas decoration stolen

ORANGE CITY, Fla. – A house on 6th Street isn't shining as bright after thieves stole 2-year-old Colton's favorite Christmas decoration.

"Our littlest one loves the Minions," said Elizabeth Sealander.

Colton smiled as he wore a Minions' shirt but is now sad that his lifesize "Dave the Minion," who he called Buddy, is gone.

Sealander said she heard a truck peel out Monday night but didn't think anything of it until the next morning.

"We open the curtains and seen it was gone. He was just ripped out of the ground," she said.

The family searched for days, even posted 50 fliers  in the neighborhood.

"We're offering a reward, no questions asked," said Sealander.

But it seems the 5-foot light-up Minion wearing a Santa hat has disappeared, leaving Colton with just an empty box.

"Every time we come up the driveway, he sees our sign that we made and then he looks where he was and he's not there," said Sealander.

Sealander said the Minion wasn't just Colton's favorite but a special Christmas decoration for the whole family.

"We're a paycheck-to-paycheck family. We're not ones that splurges on stuff," she said.

No matter what happens, Sealander said that by speaking out, she hopes it'll teach her kids and others a valuable lesson.

"When something happens, you have to speak up. You can't just sit back and take it."

The family said they plan on posting more fliers this weekend. They are also considering installing security cameras.
