Cause of Pumpkin Center fire still a mystery

Iconic home in Cocoa Beach destroyed by March fire

COCOA BEACH, Fla. – The cause of the fire that destroyed the iconic Pumpkin Center in Cocoa Beach in March has been ruled as "undetermined," according to the Cocoa Beach Fire Department.

News 6 partner Florida Today reports that Jeffrey Wells, the property’s owner, said he wasn’t aware of the fire marshal’s report and had little else to say.

“We’re going to rebuild and we’re working on that,” Wells said. “But first things first. We’re working on the insurance right now.”

They say the conclusion was drawn based on "multiple factors which failed to identify a clear and concise origin and cause of fire." The department adds that the investigation can be reopened at any time should the Fire Marshal's Office receive additional evidence.

An investigation is still ongoing independent of the Fire Marshal's Office.

Those with additional information about the fire are asked to contact the Cocoa Beach Fire Department at 321-868-3330 or fire@cityofcocoabeach.com.
