Task force agents arrest William Skanes III, 27

TITUSVILLE, Fla. – A man sought by the Titusville Police Department on multiple charges has been arrested, the Brevard County Sheriff's Office said.

The department's G.A.M.E.O.V.E.R. Task Force earlier this week arrested William Skanes III, 27, who was wanted on multiple felony charges.

Authorities said the arrest followed a vehicle and foot pursuit that took place in the Titusville area and resulted in Skanes being overtaken on foot by law enforcement officers.

Skanes was wanted following an investigation of a domestic dispute that included an aggravated battery, armed robbery and carjacking that was originally investigated by the Titusville Police Department, deputies said.

After being requested to help in the investigation by the Police Department, the task force members found Skanes in Titusville and then summoned the Brevard County Sheriff Aviation Unit to help in the apprehension, deputies said.

As agents approached Skanes, who was driving a silver Jeep, Skanes rammed an agent's vehicle before striking a building as he attempted to avoid arrest, deputies said.

Agents gave chase and asked for the help of Sheriff's North Precinct patrol deputies and Titusville police officers. Deputies said the Sheriff's Office aviation unit maintained surveillance of Skanes and saw him crash at the intersection of Main Street and Park Avenue in Titusville, at which time Skanes fled on foot.

Skanes was arrested after a short foot pursuit by task force agents, deputies said.

Skanes was taken to the Brevard County Jail, where he was held without bail, and was charged with carjacking, armed robbery, false imprisonment, grand theft, aggravated battery, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting with violence, resisting without violence, aggravated fleeing and eluding law enforcement officers and possession of cocaine, deputies said.

The Titusville Police Department is investigating the crash and has additionally charged Skanes with reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident with property damage and driving with a suspended driver's license.

Deputies said a firearm was also found inside the vehicle. Titusville police are investigating the firearm as it pertains to the case.
