WINTER GARDEN, Fla. – Dump truck drivers have been speeding, driving recklessly and running red lights in the Stoneybrook area of Winter Garden, say residents who want it to stop.
Dorothy Klc, who lives right off of Marsh Road, understands with new construction there is going to be more traffic and trucks, but she doesn't' understand why those trucks keep speeding through her Stoneybrook neighborhood.
"They run all day long," Klc said. "They go really fast down that street and sometimes it's scary to even pull out on Marsh Road.
She's one of many people News 6 spoke with who are intimidated by the dump truck drivers.
"They are crazy," said Ahmad Tayeh. "They are always speeding and everything. It's too much. Of course I'm nervous."
News 6 spoke with Winter Garden police Lt. Scott Allen, the department's spokesman, told us it has received many complaints about the dump trucks and is aware of the issue. Allen says specifically the department has had issues at the intersection of Stoneybrook West Parkway and Avalon Road.
"Our traffic unit has been placing focus on this area as one of our areas of concern for traffic related accidents, and it has not gone unaddressed," Allen wrote.
But he says catching the dump trucks in the act is tough.
"An issue that we have with this incident is that it appears that when we start enforcing the dump truck violations, they stop committing the violations. It almost appears as if they are communicating that we are out enforcing traffic," he added.
Allen says the traffic division is now working on creative ways to catch the dump trucks without being so visible. The FHP says it is also helping with patrols.
