Man struck, killed by train in Holly Hill identified

HOLLY HILL, Fla. – A man died Wednesday morning after being struck by a train in Holly Hill, according to police.

Holly Hill police on Thursday said Darren Ross, 57, of DeLand, died in the crash, which was reported around 6:35 a.m. on Walker Street near LPGA Boulevard. 

"Through the course of the investigation, it was determined that Mr. Ross was originally struck by a southbound train at approximately 12:35 a.m.," police said. "Two other trains had passed through the area during the night, but he was not discovered until daylight when the conductor of a northbound train saw his body on the tracks."

The train blocked Walker and Flomich streets while police investigated the death.
