ORLANDO, Fla. – The Orlando Police Department arrested a man after he beat up a 73-year-old woman on Parramore Avenue.
Video showed the brutal attack. Carlos Harrison, of Orange County, hit her once, pushed her out of the store and knocked her down. Sang Park got up, and that's when he delivered the smashing blow, knocking her unconscious.
"That's terrible. That lady right there, she's a real sweetheart. She don't bother nobody," customer Dennis Shappell said. "She's real kind to you when you come into the store. Just to see that happen to her is like shocking."
Police said just moments before, Harrison was inside the store loading a dolly with cases of beer. Park's son told News 6 his mother was keeping a close eye on the man when he came up to the front of the store and decided not to pay. That's when she held the door closed.
"Hard times, desperate measures, but you know that's not the way of doing it," customer Arnold Briggs said.
According to the report, Harrison attempted to steal a 12-pack of Heineken, an 18-pack of Bud Light and a 12-pack of Corona, worth almost $60 in total.
"Maybe he wasn't in his right mind at the time, like maybe, I don't know, he might need help or something," Shappell said.
Sang's husband rushed over to help, but that didn't stop Harrison from continuing to attack. Finally, police patrolling the area saw the commotion, chased him down and arrested him.
"He should be put away. That's it, he should be put away. That's an elderly lady and she's very nice," Briggs said.
Her son told News 6 this has been hard on his parents because they don't have any health insurance.
Harrison is being charged with robbery and aggravated battery of a person over 65.
