Officers told News 6 partner Florida Today that empty water bottles with a Cuban origin were found in the raft, which had been affixed with a car engine converted to power its propellers.

Border patrol agents were called to the scene, but officials don't believe anyone was on board when the raft arrived on the Brevard County shoreline.

Typically, empty rafts found in open water by the U.S. Coast Guard will be marked to let law enforcement officials know that it has already been checked out. This particular raft did not bear any such markings, according to SBPD.

Officials have since taken the raft to waste management for disposal.
