A Poinciana man is accused of punching an 11-month-old child in the head so hard the infant lost consciousness, the Osceola County Sheriff's Office said.

Daniel Holmes, 24, was trying to sleep around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. He became enraged at the sound of the baby girl crying in her playpen so he punched the child in the head, deputies said.

Osceola County Fire Rescue took the girl to Arnold Palmer Hospital where she is in critical but stable condition.

Holmes is charged with aggravated child abuse. He's being held without bond at the Osceola County Jail.
