AVALON PARK, Fla. – An Avalon Park family said it was dangerously close to being injured as it watched fireworks New Years' Eve.
"We came out here because fireworks were going off and then we realized there was a sound that wasn't a firework," Parker said.
Kendra Parker said a bullet made its way through her family home's patio screen, the pool screen and then stopped at the wall of the house, right under a window.
"Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, and then it stopped, and then it did it again a few more times," Christian Pereira said.
"My boyfriend happened to be standing out here, and he heard something fly by him and he was like, 'I know that was a bullet,'" Parker said.
That's when she said everyone ran inside. They went looking for a bullet that night but didn't find anything until Wednesday afternoon, when they were cleaning the patio.
"We're all playing dominoes, relaxing, having fun and then next thing I know, I hear gunshots, and then I was like, 'OK, what is that?'" Pereira said. "I was standing right here walking back and forth. I could have gotten hit. I was like, 'Imagine if it did hit me. What would happen then?'"
"All of us right now are still shaken up, because it's sad to think that could have been a 3-year-old, it could have been my boyfriend, it could have been any of us," Parker said.
News 6 was there as deputies stopped by to investigate, taking the bullet into evidence.
"If it would have came up a little bit more, I wouldn't be talking to you right now," Pereira said.
Deputies said since it's been a couple of days, it could be hard to trace back where the bullet came from.
