18-year-old Orlando woman found dead from gunshot wound, deputies say

ORLANDO, Fla. – A death investigation is underway after an 18-year-old woman was found dead Friday from a gunshot wound, the Orange County Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies received a 911 call at 2:57 p.m. about a suicide attempt at 12132 Bellsworth Way. When they arrived, they found Laura Gomez Cuartas suffering from a gunshot wound, but they said the injury was not self-inflicted.

A death investigation is underway.

Cuartas was the only child of a mother who is disabled and cannot work, according to family friends who set up a GoFundMe page.

The 18-year-old was set to graduate from high school in May and was working part time at Universal Studios, family friends said.
