ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Thousands of fans are coming to Central Florida this weekend to celebrate all things pop culture during MegaCon 2017 at the Orange County Convention Center.
Fans of all ages wearing costumes of all shapes and sizes can be seen throughout the expo hall.
"Lots and lots. There's so much to see. A little overwhelming, but extremely exciting," MegaCon fan Christy Stevens said.
More than 100,000 people are expected to attend the four-day event. Organizers said it's more than just comics. Anything one can imagine can be found there.
"Whether you love comics, sci-fi, anime, horror or gaming...there's truly something for everyone," Andrew Moyes, the vice-president of Fan Expo HQ, said.
It's even for fans who aren't up-to-date on today's pop culture.
"I remember Batman, Superman, Spiderman, but looking around here I don't recognize half the characters. But the costumes are amazing! They're really impressive," MegaCon fan Aaron Ullman said.
Many fans told News 6 that is their favorite part about MegaCon.
"All the steampunk stuff, I think, and people's costumes...oh that's so cool!" Brianna Stevens said.
"I like all the video game stuff and lots of "Star Wars" stuff," her brother Christopher Stevens said.
Moyes told News 6 they haven't determined MegaCon's economic impact on Orange County, but he says all of these fans are spending money while they are here.
"We're filling up hotels, we're filling up restaurants and it's a real celebration," Moyes said.
With so many people in one place, he adds safety is a top priority.
"We engage with all of our key partners, the Orange County Convention Center, to make sure it's a safe and inclusive environment for everyone who attends," Moyes said.
And that's what fans love most about MegaCon. They say it is a place where they can be themselves and be surrounded by other mega fans.
"Everyone is so sweet here, so kind. No one is judgmental and everyone is free to be who they are. I love that freeness that we have to have no judgment being here. It's awesome," MegaCon fan Sarah Tellado said.
Organizers said tickets to MegaCon are still available. The event runs Saturday until 7 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
