Child, 5, nearly drowns at Sebastian Inlet State Park

MELBOURNE BEACH, Fla. – A medical helicopter was dispatched after a 5-year-old child went underwater for three or four minutes Tuesday afternoon at Sebastian Inlet State Park, Brevard County Fire Chief Mark Schollmeyer said.


The First Flight helicopter was sent about 1:30 p.m. The near-drowning occurred in the tide pool area, Schollmeyer told News 6 partner Florida Today.

The child was conscious when Brevard County Fire Rescue units arrived, but the child was vomiting water.
