Polk County firefighters battle 2-alarm business fire

Flames cause extensive damage to Precision Wallboard

POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A Polk County business sustained extensive damage when a fire ripped through the building early Monday morning.

Firefighters were dispatched just after 12:30 a.m. to Precision Wallboard on Winter Lake Road.

It took crews three hours to completely extinguish the fire. Electrical arcing and transformer explosions made firefighting efforts difficult.

Firefighters said there was extensive damage to the building. Offices, equipment and a boat were completely destroyed.

Officials said the fire appeared to start in the upper portion of the building.

The fire scene was turned over to the Bureau of Arson and Fire Investigations.
