Good Samaritans rescue driver from retention pond crash

Driver suffered medical episode before crash

ORLANDO, Fla. – Four good Samaritans smashed the window of an SUV to rescue a 66-year-old woman who crashed into a retention pond, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said Usha Persuad lost control of her SUV Tuesday around 11 a.m. after suffering a medical episode and ended up driving over the center median, across several lanes of traffic and into a retention pond near Innovation Way and Alafaya Trail.

Witnesses broke the driver's side window and pulled Persuad out of the vehicle before it became completely submerged, the report said.

Persuad, 66, suffered minor injuries. She was taken to Florida Hospital East.
