Artist found guilty of stabbing co-worker at Universal

Frederick Torres to be sentenced for attempted murder

ORLANDO, Fla. – A caricature artist accused of attacking and stabbing his former co-worker at Universal Orlando Resort was found guilty Thursday of attempted murder.

During closing arguments earlier in the day, prosecutors played surveillance and cellphone video of the Jan. 1, 2016, attack.

Fredrick Torres, 35, chased Glenn Ferguson and stabbed him in the head with scissors after Torres was fired from his contracted job at Universal Orlando's Islands of Adventure park, police said.

After court, Ferguson said his nightmare is over.

"He's not in my life. I'll never see him again," he said.

Torres will be sentenced on Oct. 12.

The attack left Ferguson with a brain injury and a long scar on the side of his head. His wife is his full-time caretaker and he relies on his service dog, Gracie, for help.

Ferguson's wife said he's living with a traumatic brain injury, as well as suffering from epilepsy and seizures.

"The life we had before the attack, that life is gone. We have a new normal," Ferguson's wife, JoAnna Ferguson said. "But that's okay because he's still here with me and I couldn't be happier."

On Wednesday, the owner of the business where the two worked said Torres called him after learning he was fired.

"He used the words, 'I'm going to kill your No. 1 artist. I'm going to slit his throat,'" Anthony Fasen said.

The jury also heard testimony from workers at the theme park who witnessed the attack.

"He was just hitting him over and over again and Ferguson was screaming and saying, 'He's stabbing me,'" one worker said.

Prosecutors said the force of the stabbing caused a blade from the scissors to become lodged in Ferguson's head.

The defense did not call any witnesses before resting its case.

In closing arguments, an attorney for Torres claimed her client snapped and was not acting like himself when the attack happened.
