Man, 87, attacked by 8-foot alligator in Volusia County, deputies say

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – An elderly man was bitten by an 8-foot-long alligator Sunday morning at a Volusia County lake, deputies said.

Volusia deputies said the 87-year-old man was bitten on a hand and leg around 9:50 a.m. while at Lake Beresford in DeLand.

The man, who was alert when deputies arrived, was taken to Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford, deputies said. No other details about his condition were immediately available.

Florida Wildlife officials also responded to the gator attack, deputies said.
