Millions of Floridians to receive food assistance after Hurricane Irma Assistance location to open in Orlando Saturday No description found
More than 6.7 million Floridians will receive food assistance after Hurricane Irma from the SNAP and DSNAP supplement program, according to the Department of Children and Families.
The federal Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program has been serving individuals in 34 counties across Florida since Sept. 27.
"DCF has processed more than 625,000 DSNAP applications that meet the federal requirements and more than $873 million in federal food assistance has been distributed between DSNAP and SNAP supplements across Florida. This will help more than 6.7 million Floridians through SNAP and DSNAP as they continue to recover from the impacts of Hurricane Irma," the department said in a news release.
Food for Florida sites where Floridians can apply for food have popped up across the state since the storm.
On Saturday, one will open at Camping World Stadium in Orlando. Anyone interested is encouraged to apply online beforehand.
