Jury finds Sanel Saint Simon guilty of killing teenager

Saint Simon accused of killing Alexandria Chery, dumping her body

ORLANDO, Fla. – A jury has found a man guilty of killing his girlfriend's 16-year-old daughter and dumping her body near the Osceola-Polk county line.

Sanel Saint Simon has been found guilty of first-degree murder, guilty of aggravated child abuse and guilty of false information to law enforcement concerning a missing person investigation involving a child under the age of 16.

Saint Simon, 46, was on trial in the 2014 death of Alexandria Chery.

"Justice has been served. Justice for Alex has been served," a family member said.

"It's been a long time. We've been waiting for it," another family member said. "I say, 'Thank you, God.'"

Closing arguments were presented earlier in the day.

"It was not an accident he dumped her body there," said Assistant State Attorney Brian Williams, adding that Saint Simon was familiar with the area.

“They built a case around him because he was, potentially in their minds, the only person who could have done this," defense attorney Peter Schmer said.

Prosecutors and defense attorneys rested their respective cases Monday after six days of testimony. Saint Simon did not take the stand.

Chery's friends testified that Saint Simon killed her because she would not have a relationship with him.
