MIMS, Fla. – A 6-year-old girl was killed in a house fire early Friday in Brevard County.
The fire broke out around 12:20 a.m. in the 3100 block of Brockett Road in Mims.
The Rock family is mourning the loss of a child.
"Her name was Roxy, and she was a very beautiful little girl," cried Shirley Rock, the girl's great-aunt. "She she was so young to lose her life like that."
At least seven people, four adults and three children, were in the home when the fire started, officials said. The Red Cross said five victims were taken to hospitals with burns and other injuries.
Shirley Rock said her brother was injured trying to escape.
"They had to crawl out the window and he got staples all up and down his legs and he got cut up really bad," she said. "My nephew got second-degree burns on his back."
Neighbors were also saddened by the news.
"My heart is breaking because I know a lot of people here and there's some good people that live here," David Hargrove said. "You hate to hear anyone ever lose a child. No parent should ever outlive their child."
A great-aunt of the 6-year-old girl said the family lost another relative in July, making this the second tragedy for them in five months.
Titusville and Brevard County firefighters battled the blaze, which destroyed the Rocks' home.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. A GoFundMe has been created to help the family recover, click here to donate.
