ORLANDO, Fla. – The death of a 9-year-old girl Wednesday night is under investigation, according to the Orlando Police Department.
The girl's cause of death is unknown.
Police said they were called to an apartment complex on Millennia Boulevard around 10:15 p.m. and transported the girl to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Sky 6 video Thursday showed crime scene tape and patrol vehicles at the complex.
A death investigation is underway.
News 6 asked Orange County Public School officials if the girl was a student at a school within the district. A spokeswoman for the school district could not confirm that, but did confirm that a student at Shingle Creek Elementary School died Wednesday.
A call from Principal Jennifer Schafer was sent to parents notifying them of the student's death. Schafer said grief counselors would be available to students on campus Friday. Hear the full call below.
