Brevard man dies after being shot with air rifle, deputies say

Deputies investigate man's death near Port St. John

PORT ST. JOHN, Fla. – A man died late Thursday in Brevard County after being shot with an air rifle during a domestic dispute with a woman, deputies said.

The Brevard County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the man's death on Lindsay Avenue near Port St. John.

Sheriff's officials said deputies were called to the area for medical assistance and learned the man and the woman had been in an altercation. The man was shot by a .22-caliber air rifle and was taken to a hospital, where he died, sheriff's officials said.

The man's name has not been released. 

No arrests have been made.

Neighbors said they often heard arguments coming from the home.

"I would not have guessed that it would escalate to that," Bryce Mitchell said.

"I didn't know it was as bad as it was," Alice Talbert said. "We knew they were fighting and arguing."
