Brevard deputies arrest man targeting elderly residents in crime spree

Suspect stole a golf cart, cash from Barefoot Bay residents

BAREFOOT BAY, Fla. – An armed robbery at a Winn-Dixie, a stolen golf cart and a home burglary in Barefoot Bay were all by the same suspect Brevard County deputies said.

Deputies arrested Ryan Patrick Logan on Oct. 29 after they said a he went on a crime spree targeting elderly people in the south Brevard community.

On Oct. 19, Logan approached an 89-year-old man at a Winn-Dixie Shopping Center and asked for a ride. The victim said yes, but Logan attempted to steal the good Samaritans vehicle, the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office said. The man was able to fight off Logan.

Video surveillance from the store shows Logan followed the victim around the store, before attempting to rob him and steal his vehicle.

The Sheriff’s Office responded to a call from an 88-year-old resident of Barefoot Bay on Oct. 24, who said he loaned Logan his golf cart, but it was never returned.

The victim told deputies Logan said he needed “to clear some yard waste” using the golf cart. Instead, Logan sold it to a local pawn shop, deputies said.

Deputies tracked down Logan on Oct. 29 and arrested him without incident.

After arresting Logan, deputies found a checkbook that did not belong to him and $337 in cash.

Deputies contacted the person whose information was on the checkbook. The 98-year-old Barefoot Bay resident said someone had broken into their home and stole a checkbook and $342 in cash. Investigators determined both the checkbook and cash found on Logan belonged to the victim.

Brevard deputies said Logan has an intensive criminal history of burglary, dealing in stolen property, grand theft and battery on a person more than 65 years old.

Logan is being held at the Brevard County Jail Complex on a $200,000 bond.
