Florida woman put glass in her food to get free meals at restaurants, police say Kaitlyn Murphy tells police she got idea from someone she knew in rehab
Kaitlyn Murphy was arrested after police say she put shards of glass in her food at restaurants to get out of paying for what she ate.
STUART, Fla. – A Delray Beach woman accused of putting shards of glass in her food to get out of paying for meals at restaurants has been arrested.
Kaitlyn Murphy, 31, was arrested Tuesday by Stuart police. She faces a charge of scheme to defraud.
Police said Murphy visited 10 restaurants in Stuart from Sept. 15 to Sept. 26 and complained of finding glass in her food after eating most of her meals.
According to an arrest affidavit, Murphy confessed to police that she carried the glass in her purse and would intentionally put them in her meals, purposely cutting her mouth.
Many of the restaurants wound up paying for the meals or offering gift cards and free food to make up for the incidents.
Police said Murphy told them she got the idea from someone she knew in rehab.
