Florida man with 650 grams of pot was selling drugs to buy Christmas presents, police say

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – A Florida man who had more than 650 grams of marijuana in his possession said he was only selling the drugs so he could have extra money to buy Christmas presents for his children, according to the Daytona Beach Police Department.

Police said they were conducting a crime suppression operation in the 700 block of School Street on Monday because drug dealers are known to frequent the area.

James Robinson, 35, was spotted parked inside a white Chevrolet and when he noticed officers in the area, he slouched down in an attempt to hide himself from their view, according to the arrest report.

Police said they could smell cannabis coming from the vehicle and could see a large plastic bag containing marijuana between Robinson's legs. When they searched Robinson and the vehicle, police said they found more than 650 grams of marijuana that was divvied up into plastic sandwich bags, a digital scale, a metal grinder, two flip phones, more than $4,800 in cash and an iPhone X.

Robinson's wife arrived at the scene while he was being taken into custody and he told her that he was only selling marijuana so that he could buy Christmas gifts for his children, according to the report.

Robinson was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana with intent to sell within 1,000 feet of a day care and possession of drug paraphernalia.
